History of the Lodge Building

While the building still stands today, the third floor was destroyed in 1930, as the Masons had built a new temple in 1926 at 310 N Buxton Street.

Pictured above is the current home of Warren Lodge #53 A.F. & A.M. at 1606 W 2nd Ave.

WARREN LODGE #53 

Warren Lodge #53 was chartered by the Grand Lodge of Iowa on June 6, 1855. The history is unclear where the original lodge was located, but records state that in 1875, the Masons, along with John Johnston and L. H. Law constructed a three story building at 126 W. Ashland.  The first floor was home to a hardware store, while the second floor was home to Indianola's first public library.  The third floor was home to the Masonic Temple (pictured on the left in the photo below).

Our Lodge

The building on Buxton street (above) still stands today, but is now owned by Warren County.  The Masonic Temple was the hub of Masonic activity until the current lodge was erected in 1971 on the west side of town adjacent to the county fairgrounds.
